Flowers:

small and greenish white, in loose terminal panicles, with 1'-long stringy sprays giving a smoky look, with the male showier than the female; May-July

Fruit:

small dry fruit (called a drupe); July-September

brilliant yellow, orange, red and reddish purple; deciduous

sun to partial sun; alkaline, well-drained soil, adaptable; should not be over-watered or over-fertilized
