Leaves:

alternate, simple, 6"-10" long, with smooth untoothed margins often wavy; yellow-green above and paler beneath

Flowers:

greenish yellow, tulip-like, with 6 petals 2"-4" long, slightly fragrant; April-May

Fruit:

green warty cucumber-like seed cone 2.5"-3" long, maturing to pink then red, with orangish red seeds hanging on white threads; July-August

Fall Interest:

pale yellow to gold; deciduous

Culture:

sun to partial sun; moist, rich, well-drained soil; withstands cold winters better than other magnolias
