3"-5" needles mostly 5 per bundle, flexible and slightly twisted, soft texture; gray-green with whitish longitudinal line beneath

4"-8" slender cone, with scales having no prickles

needled evergreen

Culture:

sun to partial sun; medium moisture, well-drained, acidic soil; best suited to northwest Arkansas; tolerant of some shade (unusual for pine)

pyramidal shape; branches are in whorls, one whorl added each year; tall straight trunks prized for ship masts during colonial times; native to eastern North America and introduced into Arkansas for forestry purposes
