Leaves:

opposite, odd-pinnately compound, with 7-9 leaflets that are pointed, toothed, and bright green or yellow-green on both sides

Flowers:

inconspicuous

Fruit:

2" single winged samara, in clusters

Fall Interest:

golden yellow; deciduous

Culture:

sun; moist, well-drained soil; adaptable

Disease/Insect:

emerald ash borer

Use:

fast-growing shade tree but not recommended for planting due to emerald ash borer susceptibility; wood uses similar to white ash but not preferred

bark grayish brown to gray with narrow interlacing ridges that form diamond- or x-shaped patterns; leaf scar forms a half-moon shape; native to Arkansas
