showy white or pink, pointed (in contrast to notched on Cornus florida), petal-like bracts 3"-5" across; 3-4 weeks after Cornus florida

pinkish red fruit (called a drupe), resembling a strawberry

orange or reddish purple to scarlet; deciduous

partial sun with afternoon shade; moist, rich, well-drained soil; slightly more tolerant of heat than Cornus florida
