alternate, simple, with 5-11 deep lobes at nearly right angles to midvein, with greater number of bristle tips than on Nuttall or pin oak

acorn 1/4 enclosed in cup; heavy producer, ripening in autumn of the second year

red or reddish purple or brown, sometimes yellow; deciduous
