Leaves:

opposite, simple, 1.5"-3" across, with 3 or 5 shallow lobes and wavy margins, untoothed; dark green above and grayish green beneath

Flowers:

yellowish green

Fruit:

green or reddish nutlets in pairs

Fall Interest:

excellent yellow-orange to scarlet, but not as showy as sugar maple; deciduous

Culture:

sun to partial sun; medium acidic soil; more tolerant of heat and drought than sugar maple
